[flipping the business model]
We are a social enterprise and lifestyle brand committed to leveraging markets to develop systems that produce quantifiable results in the global handmade industry.
Globally, the artisan sector is decentralized. We apply design thinking to create quality products for consumers, reveal the root causes of artisan sector problems, and determine innovative industry solutions.
Due to the intensive nature of handicraft production, we limit labor in our artisan partner communities. Promoting work-life balance and limiting production means:
Together, we design modern, handcrafted goods, aligning heritage with the global marketplace. Our products are rooted in rural cultural heritages from across the globe, and infused with minimalist designs that capture the spirit of Americana style.
PEOPLE, NOT COMMODITIES
Through MAPPED (market access program for product and economic development) we promote both rural livelihood and lifestyle development in the field. We strive to alleviate the pressure to produce under poor conditions, which is common in artisan communities where poverty is prevalent. This means that we minimize competition between employees, thus promoting community, controlling quality, and ensuring work-life balance.
CLOSING INDUSTRY GAPS
We connect consumers to luxury handcrafted goods, invest our revenues to sustain our capacity building programs in rural artisan communities, and link up with public and private sector institutions to close gaps between the individuals and communities impacted by the supply chain.
To sustainably tackle key issues, we work with an effective group of local, regional and international institutions, including academic institutions and government agencies. Learn more about our memberships and partnerships.
[the production process]
Run by Rural specializes in the superior craftsmanship of products deeply rooted in cultural heritage. In Peru, our team collaborates with our artisan partners during each phase of the production process so that you receive high quality goods.
At Run by Rural we promote a sustainable work week. We're offering a limited number of
sombreros this season to ensure that our artisan partners have time for work and play.
IT TAKES A MASTER ARTISAN 7 DAYS TO WEAVE 1 SOMBRERO
FROM THE RAW FIBERS OF TOQUILLA STRAW.
That's the time that it takes to:
Go to Bikram twice
Order take-out 3 times
Start and finish a novel
THAT'S 4 HATS PER MONTH OR 48 HATS PER YEAR FOR
8 HOURS PER DAY!
It is as strenuous to the body as yoga, as indulgent as eating too much dim sum,
and as satisfying as knowing what happens at the end of the story.
